WOYWW #137

Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope that your week went well and you got everything accomplished that you wanted to get done! I didn't cause the week went way too fast but...there is always another day to get it done! I didn't make it around to all the blogs last week and I apologize for that but life beckoned and I answered the call!

I have been busy at my desk and as you can see from the picture it is something a little different for me. I have never been able to draw a straight line and was asked opt out of art when I tried to take it in school. I have stewed on this for almost two weeks and tonight took the plunge and started working on the January project for my Life Book 2012 course I am taking on line. This is the first-ever face that I have drawn! I still can't draw a straight line but was feeling good about this as I had just finished putting a coat of gesso on it and got the camera to take a picture. I think from the photo she looked a little more cross-eyed so I went in and redid the right eye and I like it better now. The color of the eyes look a different color now but.. I hope it is just the effects of the paper being wet and the angle I took the picture!
I feel pretty good about it all things told. What do you think?

If you aren't a WOYWW and you are wondering what I am talking about go visit Stamping Ground, and Julia will tell you all about it. I am off to find a cup of tea and visit other the other blogs/desks from around the world.

  1. You are SO brave. I'm impressed. There's no way I could do that. I can't draw a thing. Lovely colors, too. Happy WOYWW from #1.

  2. Wow, not bad at all! And don't worry, there are rulers for the straight lines. A tip to you: i'm looking my drawings throug the mirror - then you look it a different way and you can see better if there's something to refine.
    Have a happy WOYWW!

  10. Well done on your first face. Keep going with them as you will improve the more you do it. Your initial face is really good and has impact. You have done a wonderful job on the hair and the rest will come as you draw more.
Draw what you see and not what you think you see.
You don't need to be able to draw straight lines at all for faces and we are all different but not a straight line amongst us!

  11. WEll, the first thing I noticed was the hair. Are you sure you have not done this before? You have made a really good job of it all and it does not look like a first attempt ever, so keep at it.
You have got a good eye for the shading and colour - enjoy, that is what it is all about. You should be proud of you and what you have done.

  14. Oh my gosh! You did awesome at your first ever face! In fact, my first thought was WHO did you draw as the face looked familiar to me? I thought maybe some actress. You did excellent, A+++++! Also, lots of things don't have straight lines, so no need to draw them. Happy WOYWW!

  15. I love drawing faces, and I love seeing other people draw faces too, your desk today looks like a bit of heaven to me.

Jo is right, draw what you really see not what you think a face looks like and every time you will see more, and draw more, it is like running, the more you practice the better you get.

  16. No wonder you are pleased :) It is fun to go outside your comfort zone. I think faces are a really hard thing to do all the creases, light and dark. Hope you get to do more and then you can track how you change over the year :D

  17. I think she's lovely but as log as you had fun drawing and painting, that's the most important thing :)

  18. Wow, good for you! She's wonderful and it's great that you didn't give up! I love to draw but I can't - oh well! I tried last week to comment on your blog and blogger was not behaving, sorry! Some blogs I could comment and others like yours...just went blank when I tried. After the 10th blog (I was recording them on a piece of paper)I gave up very frustrated to say the least. Thanks for the visit and have a great day!

  21. I can do straight lines (just use a ruler ha ha) it's the twirly and curly bits I struggle with. I was useless at art in school - always in the bottom two or three of a class of 30+ so I really envy your drawing and think the face is gorgeous.
Thanks for visitng me - I'm a bit late getting round everyone this week.

  23. Your first face? You'd never know it, its fab! Well done for taking the plunge-the hardest part is getting started.

  24. Great job!!! She's very pretty. I feel the same way about drawing. A book I have (sorry, can't remember the title right now) suggests drawing with your non-dominant hand with your eyes closed! I did it and was so proud that I even stayed on the page. Oh, and you can't raise your pencil while doing this.

I see you are from Norman, OK. Seems like I have relatives there - will have to find out. I know I have relatives in Midwest City and Heavner.

Thanks for your visit and comment Vickie.

I'm having trouble commenting on your blog - I did try yesterday too, I know a lot of people are having blogger probs at the moment, so hopefully, they'll be resolved soon.

I love your painting of the face - it's gorgeous!! Is it really your first one - wow!!!! Her eyes do look ever so slightly crossed, but I think that gives her more character and I'm really drawn into the face when looking at it. Not that I'm any expert - I can't draw for toffee, but I do know what I like and I like your painted face!!

  27. Well done you - I always find eyes difficult. I am having a rest from making little frocks - I have been making children's dressing up outfits for a friend instead!! Have a good week. x Jo

  28. how wonderful that you've made this lovely face! yes, i believe everyone can draw as long as they are brave enough to try and determined enough to keep practicing! i too sometimes see something when i look at a picture i have taken. as for the eyes having different colors, there is no rule that they should be the same!
happy WOYWW, and thanks for sharing!

  29. She's really beautiful, Vickie, I love her hair and those big eyes. Isn't it awful the way we are put off art at school and it takes so many years to have another go. Children should be encouraged, there is no right and wrong as far as creating is concerned is there.

  30. Wow. Your first ever face! Well done. You should be very pleased with yourself. We had to choose between dressmaking or art at school. We couldn't do both. Hugs Mrs A.

    1. Am so late, honestly, the numbers are starting to get the better of me! I love your drawing..wow, if your art teacher could see you now...it's great that you've done enough stuff since to be able to silence your doubts and just go for it...and a face too, not like starting with an easy subject, huh!!! Looks like Project Life is going to encourage you out of your box and enhance your life.

  31. If I could do half as well as you, I would be so chuffed. I hated art at school, because my painting always messed up my drawing. I am determined to have another go on my own this year. I hope I do as well as you. xx Maggie #70

  33. Give yourself a few more faces and you will be off and running..... I used to draw eyes and noses on everything as a kid....and then...didn't draw for years.... and then...got into doll making and took an online class..... wow.... almost 20 pages on drawing and colouring eyes! I loved it. Now...I draw eyes on everything again....what fun! It's a great first face Vickie!
