WOYWW #103

It is Wednesday again and I am so happy to be home so I can play along on WOYWW. I hadn't realized how addicted I have become to the group until I couldn't play along one week and had to use trip pictures last week to post. If you want to play along visit Stamping Ground the home of Julia Dunnit and blog hop around with the rest of us! It is lots of fun and I will warn you...very addictive!

I came home last Saturday from helping my daughter and her husband bury his mother. Rainey had been ill with all sorts of medical problems not the least of which was abdominal cancer. Rainey turned out to be a dark horse and had a history most of her family didn't know about. Oh nothing bad or horrible just that she was a scrapbooker, did altered art, knitted, crocheted, painted and even took classes to learn how to do some of it. We found notebooks filled with notes she had taken in the classes and drawings that she had made from pictures out of magazines. Rainey loved her cats and we were surprised at finding no less than 6 scrapbooks filled with pictures of them, scrapbooks of trips she had taken over the years, pictures of her son filled a book...and no one knew she knew how to do it. Her house and yard were filled with all sorts of flowers and she loved roses in all forms. I wish I could have known her a little better, we were kindred spirits.

Okay on to my project I started last night! I brought this little house home from Iowa with me because my daughter was going to toss it out. The minute I saw it I knew that I wanted to alter it Tim Holtz style!

Here is a picture of my desk and the house in progress. I am not for sure exactly what it will turn out to be but I think I will use it to store buttons or sewing supplies on the shelf in my craft room.

Hopefully I will get it done by the weekend and I will post a finished picture so come back next week and see it!

  22. Ooooooo, can't wait to see what you do with the house. I have a similar one, only it has 4 drawers. I got it at a Christmas swap, no one else wanted it because the paint on it then was fairly awful. Of course, WE can see the potential in stuff like that. :-)

  26. Reading about Rainey brought a tears to my eyes. It's a shame she kept all that talent, etc. to herself! But a blessing that her family will have it to remember her by. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can't wait to see the finished house! :-)

  29. First things first, Vicky, I've just realised I never came to visit last week, slapped hands!!!
I was so sorry to hear of the reason for your trip. What a shame your daughter's MIL kept all her talents hidden but how lovely for her family to have all her art to remember her by.
Your house is gorgeous, I love the flower and that roof is looking stunning. Can't wait to see the finished thing.
Thanks so much for your lovely comments. I'd so love to grow veg but am not very good at it so stick to flowers with just a few peas to eat straight from the pod, a real treat. I usually have tomatoes but my plant sitter is coming on holiday with us this year so I have no one to water them while we are away so no toms this year.

  30. Know how you are feeling. My FIL passed away in February and whilst having to clear the house was a horrendous task we found some amazing gems amongst the stuff that he had collected. A real insight to his life. Love your little bird box drawers and will certainly come back for a further look. Hugs Mrs A. No. 56

  40. What a sad reason for your trip week Vicki but what a wonderful discovery of all the albums and photos.
What a fantastic find the little bird house was too and to think it was going to be thrown out. These non-crafters have no idea of the treasures that lie in other peoples ‘rubbish’. I’m looking forward to seeing it when it’s finished.
Thanks for stopping by this week and for your lovely message.

    Happy Crafting
