WOYWW #203

Better late then never is my new mantra!  I seem to have lost track of time this week and Wednesday came creeping up on me.  Not been a good week health wise but here is hoping with the advent of the warmer weather the pain and "get along" issues will be resolved!

Okay why we are here!  My desk...my desk you ask... go visit with Julia at Stamping Ground and she will fill you in on what the big deal is about desks!

A wider view again showing the two clip-its that I am using.  It is a good way to have bling and embellishment at hand and readily accessible.  

Larger clip-it holds the longer ribbon/bling .  I have several of these button box holders that sit on top of the black drawers.  I love these things from IKEA.  This is actually two drawer cabinets that are part of the ALEX line that I stacked one upon the other.

Latest art journal page!  Cinco de Mayo is celebrated here in the southwest/south central states.  Cinco de Mayo is not only a Mexican holiday but a holiday in the USA celebrating a early Civil War battle and the battle of Puebla where the US and Mexico joined together to rout France..last battle the French fought in the Americas!  

Brick wall texturing and a large Margarita set the stage for the bright colors and banner of the page.  I love Dylusions ink and how bright they are.  Margarita glass is acrylic paint.

WOYWW #198

Another busy week come and gone!  I am feeling much better this week and feel like I am returned to the land of the living and not going to die!  OMG!  I hate being sick and I am such a whiner when I don't feel well!  This sinusitus, cough, achiness etc is for the dogs!!  No I wouldn't even wish this stuff on a dog...maybe a rattlesnake would deserve it...nasty creatures such as they are!

This is my desk this week.  Not much going on.  I did get some crafty stuff done over the week end...a couple journal pages, a canister made from a whisky can and Graphic 45 paper, and a couple tags I will share as the week progresses!

Not a big change over other weeks! :-)  I have fallen in love with those little Petaloo petals flowers in the back ground.  They are just the right size and add just the right colors to my projects.  I need to learn how to make them!

I would like to share a tag I made for Easter this past weekend.  A friend tells me it creeps her out cause the rabbit is made from a piece of felt that is obviously fur!  I thought it was cute and not creepy at all!  This is loosely based on a tag I saw somewhere on the internet this past month (the window part) but when I went looking I couldn't find who to give credit to!  Anyway it was a fun make.  I am submitting this tag to the Tim Holtz tag of the month challenge.

All this talk about desks and crafty stuff makes me thirsty so I am off to get a cup of tea to drink and then I am off to Julia's WOYWW and I will be busy for a few minutes nosing into others desks.  Come join in the fun. 

More tags!

Ready for a few more tags today? I am having so much fun in my craft room that it is starting to look like a tornado has blown threw it and scattered all my treasures to the four corners of the world! I don't know about you but I love having everything right at my finger tips and I also don't know how to put it up once I have finished using it especially when I am in a creative mood so everything just gets tossed here and there so I can just reach out and grab it. Anyway on to the tags...

This first tag is made using the Tim Holtz (TH) Tag die then embossed with the Snowflake Flurries texture fade. I used the Seasonal distress ink iced spruce and denim jeans. The red layer is the festive berries in on a strip of paper I embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder called Sheet music. The snowman from his Retro Holiday stamp set was stamped on Stampin'Up!(SU) Night of Navy card stock and white embossing powder was used. I cut out the snowman and pop dotted him on the top of the red layer. Snow flakes are made with the Winter Wonderland die from TH and Whisper White cardstock from SU! The bling is SU!



This tag is made from an ATC I had left over from a swap in December. I love the old vintage Santa from the TH stamp set called Holiday Collections and the green pine bough and calender are from Mini Holidays. I used gathered twigs ink to stamp the image then distress around the sides in the same ink. The ATC is made using the TH atc die, TH tag die was used for the tag and then it was embossed with a Sizzix folder. The tag is distressed with iced spruce and pine needles distress ink. I used some beads I had left from another project and crystal glaze to adhere them to the atc and a snowflake brad! Red and white ribbon and Real Red satin ribbon is from SU!



Lots of different dies and folders were used on this tag. Dies used were tag die, Vintage Cabinet Card, movers and shapers townscape, TH Christmas background and Sizzix music embossing folder. The Santa stamp is from the TH Holiday Wishes and was stamped in Basic Black from SU! and colored with Real Red on the hat! I used the Winter seasonal ink pads for coloring the various components.



I am off to the room of stash to play some more! I am having so much fun!

bird cage tag

Wanted to share some pictures of a tag that I made for the bird cage swap at Frankie's last month. I hadn't heard from the person that my tag went to that she had received it but decided she must have gotten it or I would have heard otherwise.
I used the Tim Holtz (TH) tag die to cut the tag then embossed it with a TH folder after using the wrinkle free distress technique to color it. The birdcage and bird are cut using the bird cage die and colored with the silver Adirondack® Metallics Acrylic Paint Dabber. Bird is colored with fired brick distress ink.
the floral ribbon is colored with Broken China Distress Stain and a silver dew drop placed in the center before gluing it to the birdcage. The sentiment is from TH and stamped on cardstock and embossed with clear embossing powder then cut using a Stampin Up! punch. There is glass glitter "bird seed" in the little bottle.
I embellished the tag hole with Fun Fur and added a Word Stick, a key and a fob I made from a bead. The mulberry roses were tipped with Broken China Distress Stain.

Hope to be home next week from Spain and get settled in a bit so I can start playing in my craft room again by Thursday or Friday! I have enjoyed all the travels but since the first of September until now is a long time without all my toys to play with. Looking forward to creating lots of fun things that I have running around in my head. More later!

Tags Class

I am doing another tag class at WLS next week. I have gotten quite a few comments from people about my creativity and the ideas I come up with. Folks I am clueless where the inspiration comes from. One time I am all frilly and the next I am grungy. I love the bipolar aspect of my work. Keeps me flowing and happy!

Back to the topic at hand. The question I was asked by several people about these cards was..."Do these tags have a story? They sure look like they should have a story"... Yes, Yes they do! Most of my tags have a story when I am making them. Sometimes Tim Holtz type tags puts me in an introspective mood and draws on my memories. I think that is why I like the grungy aspect of the work is because life isn't always so bright and shiny.


This first tag is all about a journey through life. Check out the collage of various paper bits.




I loved the look off all the papers in the Lost and Found Paper Stack and just tore them up and combined them into a collage for the journey tag. These things have meaning for me! The clock is because time is limited and I need to remind myself to stop and smell the roses.





This man reminds me of my Uncle Carl...my grandmothers brother.



Carl was a Marine on Iwo Jima in WWII and was wounded and sent home. Grandma and Carl's other two other brothers weren't as lucky, there wasn't any "Saving Private Ryan" for their family, and they were killed in the South Pacific. Carl was always so dapper and chic when he wasn't in the throe's of his alcoholism...he brought back with him from the war! Carl was unique!







The third tag is about hope and after listening to a debate in our town about funding education I wonder if there is any hope.





The story here is the tree of life is behind a fence for protection and we as parents and citizens should protect our children. The children in the class picture are the future and need us to help them what ever it takes. This tag deserves a hope ticket!
