WOYWW #157

Happy WOYWW #157...hope everyone had a great time visiting all the linked blogs last week and swapping ATC's.  I am working on another batch so if you would like to swap this week let me know and I will ship one your way!  Email me at okienurse@gmail.com!  What's WOYWW...well Julia at Stamping Ground can fill you in on it...

What's on my work desk tonight you say?  Well a lot of  "stuffs" still but I am working on making a marker/copic/pen holder.  I got this idea off another blog, Stamp, Paper, Scissors, and Donkey Smiles where Michele took a chipboard box and converted it to hold hers so I can't claim an original idea here but it is a lot cheaper adaptation of buying a ready made box to hold your Copics or markers!
This is my 'treasure chest that I bought to make my holder with!  Sorry about the picture!

The component that makes this such a workable idea is the dropped ceiling light grid tile that you can buy at just about any hardware store.  It runs about $12 a 2' x 4' section but you can make multiple boxes with one tile so get together with friends and split the cost.  I decided not to use a chipboard box but a wooden travel case I found on sale at Michael's for 50% off then I threw in a 20% off total purchase coupon and I walked away with it for $9 plus change.

I cut the ceiling grid into lengths to fit my box.  17 x 9 squares and cut two for the bottom of the box and one for the top and glued it in with quick set glue.  Gorilla glue puffs out a bit when in sets and makes an excellent mount for the tile bit.   This box is 11.24" x 6.25" and will hold
This box is 11.25" x 6.25" and will hold 153 markers/Copic markers/pens.  I think you could actually get by a little cheaper making one using a covered box or re purposing a box and covering with a nice paper!
Finished!  All loaded up with my markers, distress markers, and some other pens.  I don't have enough room to put my Copics in this box!  It is all distress markers and Stampin Up! Stamp and Write markers.  Guess I will have to make another for the Copics!  It works for  me!
Update:  I like to store my markers horizontal so which ever tip I want to use if juicy when I want to use it!  To keep the markers in place I cut a piece of eggcrate foam to fit the box lid so when the lid is closed and turned on its side they stay put !

This latest addition to my color collection will make it easy to go to crops and take colors with me.
Okay that's what's on my desk today.  I am off to check out other blogs around the world and have a snoop to see what else everyone is doing.  Join us!  It is addictive.

  30. Hi Vickie,

What a great idea for the markers. I don't have any copics but am thinking about trying them out. I bought some new watercolor pencils and aren't happy with them - they aren't as vibrant as I'd like. Do the copics leave shadows of where they overlap?

And when is the new SU catalog coming out? I feel the need......

  31. Do Copics truly fit in the ceiling grid thing? I may have to invest in some of that stuff! My Copics outgrew their basket and I bought a cute lock box from the office store. It didn't have to lock, but it was hard to find a square box with a handle that looked to be the right size. However, it is too big. I shoved some empty boxes in there to fill up space but my markers sag and fall over. I do plan to really FILL the box someday but until then.... Love your fun box! That's a great find and probably cheaper than my lock box.

  41. Somtimes Miss Vickie, I wonder if you aren't too smart for me. That box is something else. And I love that you've just got on and used it without turning it into a make-over first and thereby putting off it's usefulness.

  42. What a fab storage idea Vicki. I brought one of those CD storage cases for mine but find with my slap handedness that I keep missing the pockets when I put them away. I may have a rethink and see if I can get hold of anything like that over here and do a re-model!

    Thanks for sharing and
