WOYWW #195

Welcome to my desk.  Not much different then it was last Wednesday but I have been busy making cards and doing a few other things this week.

I received a delivery from Stamps of Life of some new Easter dies and stamps.  I also bought a Sizzix die that makes a flip card that I am excited to start using.  I just bought the basic square but I can see so much potential and fun to be had with it.

I thought I would share a multi mat card I made for St. Patricks Day.  I know that St. Patrick's day isn't celebrated in the UK like it is here and I wonder if it isn't one of those holidays started by the immigrants from Ireland to the USA.    Anyway it is a lot of fun.  My grandfathers family are from Irish and German stock and he always enjoyed laying the blarney on thick.
Anyway that's all for my desk today.  Hope to make it around to more desks this week.  I think I will go get my cup off the desk and make another cup of tea and hop around and take a good snoop of desks today.  If you would like to join in go to Stamping Ground and click on the little button in the upper left corner that says WOYWW!  Julia has all the deets about how to start having fun with us.  Have a great week everyone!

  2. Hi Vickie!
I´ve tried to find that flip card die from Finland, but I haven´t succeeded yet. It always takes a bit time to get new things here!
St. Patricks Day is something we don´t have here in Finland - we are mostly Lutheran.
You asked - a couple of weeks ago (ashamed)- about the Frantages to use on album covers. They are embossing enamels with glitter, so they can be used on covers. Only with the mica flakes you may have little problems.
    Happy WOYWW!

  5. Wow, that's a bright card for St Pats Day. Must have taken ages to do but so well worth it. Fun!
We do celebrate over here in the UK but tends to be the Irish themselves who celebrate but I noticed, on m recent visit to America, the shops were full of it. Seems big over there.
Look forward to seeing the flip die in action.

  6. Love your fun card, Vickie. I wonder why we don't celebrate St Patricks day the same, funny that. I'm very envious of your Easter goodies, there seems to be a shortage here in the UK. I've looked everywhere as I managed to sell loads of Easter cards last year but am struggling for images this year.
Can't wait to see what you create with it.
    Happy WOYWW

  15. Ah begorrah, but that is a fine St Paddy's card...to be sure!!! The Saints days aren't celebrated much in England but St David's Day is big in Wales. So the day after tomorrow, Wales will be full of people wearing daffodils and eating cawl, lamb and leek broth!! Oh and singing as well :)

  16. Hi Vickie - loving that cute little bunny centre frame! And I think you're right about St Paddy's day being an immigrants holiday harking back to their roots _ we have friends inKansas and Arizona who party their socks off! My Mum was from Derry and we never celebrated :-)

  23. Thanks for stopping by earlier! Enjoyed your visit...Ohhh, your desk looks so fun today. Love the bright and cheery St Paddy's day card!

The dies with the matching stamps look just great...I have written down the name of the company so I can check them out...I have a Christmas stamp/die that is like that. I find it really helps with the assembly part of card making...especially for the grandchildren!

  25. That is the cutest St. Pat's card I have ever seen!! So glad the big dump of snow missed you. I have a good friend who lives in Kansas City, and they are completely snowed in, with no TV or internet. But at least they have power. We just got 3 inches in Springfield...not too bad! Happy WOYWW! 26. St Patrick's Day is celebrated in some parts of the UK, apart from Northern Ireland, mainly places where there is a high concentration of Irish living there. I think you are right, it is a holiday that comes from Irish immigration in the past, which is why you get it over there, as a result of the potato famine amongst other reasons. This is a quiet time of the year for me, with no St Patrick to celebrate, I don't do Easter cards either and both our mothers died a few years ago. So it gives me a chance to get ahead for the rest of the year. Thank you for your visit and kind comments. Hope you have a good week playing with all your new stash. xx Maggie #15

  28. We celebrate it in a smaller way I think, we send cards, go to mass and wear shamrock, but don't have the big parades that you do, is it a holiday for you? Happy WOYWW!

  31. Top O' the mornin missy... Love the St. Patrick's card. Ohhh lots of toys on your desk....can I come and play? To answer your question about Easter paper. The one on the first card I've had for a few years. I looked on line and didn't see it anywhere. If I find it, I'll let you know. The napkins were purchased by a friend, but I think at Tuesday Morning Store or a Party store. If you want to know how to turn napkins to paper, shoot me an email and I'll be most happy to share the how to. Have a great week, you sure have the makings for it...

  43. Hi Vicki great card. There is an Irish man named Jim who does various gardens around here. He lives in a house around the corner. It's a big 3 story old house and he is on second floor. He puts out lots and lots of decoration on St Pat's day. Love to go and have a look. He's a lovely chap but if your in a hurry it's best not to stop and say Hi :-) Great goodies you've got to play with. Anne x now @ 87 was 88 earlier :-) x

  44. Great desk, Vicki! You are going to be having fun with those new Easter goodies before long. Your St. Pat's card is wonderful. My Mister is half Irish (half German) and so we always celebrate with the corned beef, cabbage, and Irish soda bread. This year I'll by flying back from my sister's on the 17th, so we'll have to celebrate the day after.

Anyhoodles, thanks for coming by to see me earlier and I wish you a wonderful week! Darnell #34

  56. Love the card Vickie and your desk always looks so productive. Sorry I'm late returning your visit, managed to get out with Sorrel yesterday and enjoy the British sunshine. Back is much better today but I'm taking care not to overdo it - can't craft sitting down and then I suffer. Just think I'm lucky not to be Michaelangelo painting the ceiling of the Systine Chapel - and I have more paints and inks than he had as well.
