WOYWW # 178

Busy week last week!  I decided that this week was going to be less busy but if Monday and Tuesday are anything to go by it might just be flying by faster!!!  Arghhhh!  I keep telling it to slow down but I can't get time to listen to me!!!

This is my desk this week...
Looks just about the same as every week but this week there are some stamps on the left that I found that I forgot I had...do you ever do that?  On the right are some bottles that I found for $.97 at Micheal's that I am going to make Potion bottles out of to use as dust collectors (room decoration) in my craft room and maybe elsewhere in the house.  In the center on the white card are some pencils and pads that I am going to use in my Halloween Trick or Treater's basket tomorrow night.  Want to see them up close?

I used Stampin Up! card stock and punches to make the tags.  They are glittered but that doesn't show up well here.  I am going to use these for the kids in our neighborhood tomorrow night and friends children that come by.

Something new came in the mail the other day!
Crafter's Companion is having a huge sale on their Spectrum Noir pens...go check it out.  If you already have the markers maybe you need the rack?  It is on sale too.  Alcohol markers for about the 1/4 the price (or less) then Copics and they color just as well as the higher priced ones.  This week they are on sale too!

To find out more about WOYWW check in with Julia at Stamping Ground and she will tell you about the Wednesday WOYWW desk snoop!

My other desk this week is my kitchen.  I have been working hard trying to find bread products that are fit to eat.  I am feeling much better this week and I think the diet might be working even with all my skepticism.  Check out what I am talking about on my Okienurse's Fibromyalgia Blog if you are interested!

I found a new baking mix that I have been having fun with and I made it myself!!  I found a recipe on GLG, Ginger Lemon Girl, Guilt Free and Gluten Free blog.   Carrie has all sorts of fun recipes on the blog and she has actually published a couple books that I have found really interesting and helpful in my search for gluten free foods.
In the center are eight 3 cup bags of the baking mix.  This mix is like Bisquick and can be used for cookies, cakes, biscuits, pancakes, waffles etc.  It already has milk powder, baking powder, Crisco, salt mixed in with a variety of gluten free flours.  On the left are some chocolate chip doughnut holes I made yesterday (and they are still moist) and on the right I made some Cheddar Bay biscuits (similar to those at Red Lobster) today.  YUMMY!!
I can see I am going to have issues if I keep cooking like this with gaining a ton of weight but I think what I am trying to do is prove to myself I am not giving up treats etc by doing this diet.  Only thing seems to be beer...I like a good beer or shot of bourbon once in a while.  I think I found a tolerable swap for that too...
Now isn't this nice?  OMG!  Yummy! Crisp tart apples with a kick! See the bottom of the label?  Naturally Gluten Free!   I peeled the label off this bottle...and the next cause it was too pretty to go in the trash...got to think of something I can do with it.
One last bit...
I sent off my passport for renewal on 17 Oct to St. Louis, MO.  Well something happened...gods smiled on me cause my cruise if 2 Dec and I was worried it wouldn't be here by then but on Friday I went to the mail box and there it was.  Someone messed up in the State Dept for sure!!  My check hasn't even cleared and it is here in my hot little hands.

Okay that all I have to share this week.  Hope I didn't bend your ear too much.  I just wanted share that life is good this week and all is well in Okienurse's life and I hope it is in yours also.  I am off to post this and find a cup of tea and maybe I will be lucky enough to find a few blogs have also posted early tonight.  Hope so!

  1. It sounds like you need to slow down and breathe deeply. Says someone who does not practice what she preaches.

Sounds like a great sale but I am not purchasing anything else for awhile, I will be to busy to play with it.

It also seems you were lucky with the passport, wait they might realise what has happened.

Love those potion bottles, I love bottles but these are a fab shape. Love your halloween makes too - we don't celebrate it quite as much as you do but we do have a basket of sweets ready and my cackling witch is in the window ready to scare.

  14. Lovely busy desk Vickie and great to find you more upbeat this week! Some of the things I had Andrew bring back from England were from the Crafters Companion sale, when he called they said they couldn't guarantee the delivery before he had to leave as they'd been inundated and had had to hire more packers in their warehouse!

On the subject of food, I found something that really helped me out was proper food combining. So I try not to mix protein and starch in the same meal, in general, if I have pasta or rice I try to just have a veggie dish with it, if I have meat I don't have potatoes, rice or pasta with it. My digestion and stomach are so much better for eating like this. I do this most of the time, then I don't worry about the days I want a nice dinner with mash or something like that.

    Hugs

  26. Oh I don't know where to start..where does the cruise take you if you're needing a passport? I'm excited for you - are you coming all the way across to here? The Gluten free stuff - YEEHAA, so nice that you are already feeling a difference. I made some muffins with corn flour today...heavy! But, sugar and fat free, so tolerable for my weight loss plan...but I don't think they'll keep well. Pretty pen collection, bet you'll have a lot of use from them - and I love your Hallowe'en gifts...great alternative to sweeties all the time.

    1. Julia, our daughter has to do gluten free for her daughter. She has found that things need to be frozen immediately, and then only taken out when they are actually needed. they do not keep well out of the freezer. xx Maggei #42

  30. Happy WOYWW. Where to start? A cruise - that will be difficult when you are on a gluten-free diet! I would love to go on one, but I get really seasick and would hate it if that ruined my holiday. Spectrum Noir pens - I have the full set as well, and the racks. They are great and so much cheaper than the Copics (I sold mine on Ebay). I am having trouble with my IBS at the moment, and actually off my food - which is great for my waistline, but I hate feeling so ill. Hope that you continue to have a good week. Ali x #52

  33. That's amazing that you got your passport with such a quick turn-around. I think baking is hazardous to your waistline whether it is gluten free or not. Anyway, I know it is hazardous to mine! (when I bake, not when you bake, that would just be weird, but it would be a good excuse... must be Okienurse baking again, what can I do?!). Do the Spectrum Noir pens bleed through cardstock some like the Copics do? I have a friend in search of decent markers that don't bleed through. I think she is looking for something that doesn't exist!

  34. You have bought some great bargains this week ...hope you have fun with your new pens. I love baking and cooking... and I think that a real problem for me because I love eating too....must pop over to your other blog and have a read. Something interesting I have been thinking about re food intolerance ...my daughter was thinking she had a gluten intolerence but I have been wondering if it was one to Yeast so have been experimenting and reading up on it ...she has most of the symptoms and can eat wraps and soda bread with no problem ....now I just need her to see the doc and hope he agrees. xx#101

  35. Love your new pens and their rack - what a lovely colourful display. You sound as if you've been really busy tis week, Vickie, and getting on well with your diet too. So glad to hear you are feeling better.

Thanks for your comment, and I'm glad you like my knitting. It's nice to have got it going again.

  36. Oooh, did you get all those new pens? Or just the organizer...does this mean I'm rubbing off on you? lol I wish I could come down there sometime and help you get organized...its my favorite kind of project. I'm glad things are all good there. I have heard a bit about gluten free being good for fibro and other things, too. I hope you can keep at it. I always feel better when I'm off wheat and carbs but there are just so many yummy things with one or both those things, especially since wheat has carbs already! Anyways, thanks for stopping by and leaving me an encouraging comment. :) Deeyll

  39. Love the Halloween bits. So cute. We have to renew our passports (me and DD - DH and DS are on a differnt schedule) but it means a long day at the embassy in London for us. Easier by mail, I suspect.

  41. Excellent post Vicky... lots of goodies and colour. Love your Halloween treats too. Lucky you to be able to look forward to a cruise. Where will you be sailing to? Somewhere warm and sunny I hope.
You should be able to listen to the radio interview on www.bbc.co.uk/radiomerseyside via "listen again" facility on Mon 29th Oct at about 39 mins into the Sean Styles morning Show.
I used to work for that radio station and Sean was interviewing me about various means of socialising.
