WOYWW #109

It has been an interesting week so far as the weather goes around here. Today I am out running around in the heat getting my errands done when I realized that my air conditioner didn't seem to be cooling off the car very well. I checked my iPhone weather app and here is what I saw! It doesn't look like it is going to be much better the rest of the week either!! I am guessing that my electric bill will be somewhere around $100-$125 per week if not more if this keeps up! I think I will just stay in and play in my craft room!

Welcome WOYWW #109. I have a lot of fun blogging and visiting the blogs of friends that I have made around the world. If you are curious as to what WOYWW is go to visit Julia Dunnit at Stamping Ground and see what I am talking about.

Speaking of craft rooms this is a picture of my desk today. See the big glass if Iced Tea in front of my stamp pads? I bet I will be drinking gallons of the stuff this week to stay cool. Back to the desk, I am persevering in getting my stamps off of wood blocks and making them acrylic block mounted stamps. I have so many stamps that room is becoming and issue with storage of the stamps. I have a friend who is freaking out about me doing this and her number one worry was about the resale value but you know I don't plan on selling them so for me that is a non-issue!
I learned about using Aleene's Tack-It Over and Over from Sue in Oregon, another blogger, to use with the stamps and have been working on completing removing the wood this past week.

I thought I would show you a canvas I finished this week using the paper I had left over from making the Christmas in July tags last week. All the paper on the tags and the Santa came from one sheet of Graphic 45 paper. This canvas was a lot of fun to make and I might have to add it to the class if anyone wants to make it too! I used some of the Candy Cane Stickles, the mini Flourish die from Tim Holtz.

One last picture then I am going to go...I made bread this week and I just thought I would crow about it since it has been bugging me to death that bread has gone up over $3 a loaf here. I made a loaf of bread in the bread machine, then I got a wild hair and while that was making made a loaf of cinnamon raisin and 10 sandwich rolls. I have a mixer that kneads so I don't have to do the hard work. I am just excited I made all this and I probably have enough of all the ingredients to make twice as much more and I paid less than $7 for all the makings. Call me cheap!! I don't care I need to the money to buy more stash!

I'm off now to have a snoop around the other blogs. I need more iced tea and I will be set for a pleasurable time. Everyone take care. Stay cool.

UPDATE! I just realized as I was reading Tuire Flemings post that I hadn't posted a picture of the PIF she sent me. If you look closely in the desk picture at the pen holder in the center back of the desk I have the cat that she made. Here is a pic of the brooch and cat. Thank you Tuire I have received compliments on both of them.

  1. Ah Vickie so know what you mean about cutting corners so you can buy more stash! I do that all the time but supposed to be saving for next year as hope to go to UK to see family! now love that card and that card very beautiful and bread is really impressive.
I have made cinnamon and currant wheels (sort of buns in wheel shape) many years ago from a friend who was from US her recipe was amazingly yummy too! it was made with the filling as follows: brown sugar, walnuts chopped and butter plus currants melted all together then spread it on rolled out bread dough then roll up into a long tube, and cut into wheels and bake. I am mouthwatering here at the thought of it! love Shaz in oz.x

  5. OOh fresh bread - it will taste all the sweeter for being less expensive - it's about the same price here, very expensive..I've done mini pizzas in the roll up and slice style that Shaz talks of...yummy. I freak at the thought of you losing your wood mounts too, but for no reason other than I like them - your desk looks very tidy considering the job you're doing. I love Tuire's gifts, the cat is so cool!

  11. The bread looks delish! The xmas canvas is really lovely, I'm slowly getting motivated to make some xmas stuff! I can imagine wooden mounted stamps take up sooo much room, I only have a few so not such a problem for me but can totally understand the benefits of taking them off if you have alot. Your PiF gifts are lovely. Thanks for sharing, keep cool :o)

  12. Ice Tea..finally we have had enough sun to make some Sun Tea. Beautiful weather now in Iowa.
Your PiF is great. Love the brooch. Was a fun thing. I was complaining about bread being $4.29 and bought frozen loafs to make some. Don't understand what's so special to make it cost soooo much. Thanks for sharing, Enjoy WOYWW

  14. Ohh what an interesting desk! Are you really getting rid of the wood???? Ohhh I couldn't do that - I love my wooden stamps! Baking bread! Yum! I bake it occasionally too but just yesterday I bought a horrible bread and I thought - no more of this crap - I am baking from now on! Your Pifs are lovely - tha car is just amazing!

  17. Hello Vickie! Long time since I entered to WOYWW. Life's been a bit complicated past few months & my craft & blogging life has suffered a bit! Nice to see your busy with stuff, but not the weather! Bet your melting! Beautiful Christmas Canvas, what a great idea for a seasonal gift! And look at the bread! Amazing! Think I would make my own too if it increased in price, good on you!

  18. Love the idea with saving space with the wood removed... I just got some of the Aleene's Tack-It Over and Over but havent used it yet...
Now for the beautiful Santa... I can't say enought, he is just beautiful!!
LOVE the bread... your not cheap at all... I LOVE home made bread and which I could make some. ENJOY!
And thanks for sharing every thing today!!

  19. Your space looks very organized to me - all the inkpads labeled, wow! I use Aleene's glue as well, it works very well for my rubber stamps and this way I can keep them in a binder. Those wood mounted stamps take up a lot of storage space, but I have to admit that I still like the feel of a wood mounted stamp in my hand. It's like a book versus a kindle :-)

  20. That's one hot wheather you're having over there. :) Hope your bills don't go up. Luckyly our house is very cold so we have no need for air contitioner. Great PIF and the bread is looking yummy!

  21. OK so it's 100 degrees and you're baking bread! Although, there is no better smell in the whole world IMO. It was 95 here with a heat index of 101 when we were camping over Independence Day weekend, a tad warm when you're in tent with no ac! Desk is nice and clean this week though.

  22. That bread is making my mouth water!! You should come over here if you want to cool down, my air-con is all but redundant at the mo. Tipping down with rain as I speak.
Know what you mean about cutting back on some stuff but NOT the stash!! A woman after my own heart!!

  23. Forgot to mention that that card is super-stunning!! Show me show me!!

  24. Ooh there is nothing like your own freshly baked bread. Lovely pifs you received:)

  25. Oh my goodness, those temperatures are high! Wish you could send us a bit - it's summer here, ostensibly, and we got up to 12C today, along with lots of cold rain. :( Great to see your bread!

  26. Such a great pif....love that cat ..and I love the look of the bread. I used to love making bread by hand ...never got on with the machine I was given to save my arms ...the basic bread was too sweet. Good bread from a baker is about £2 and good sliced is £1.50 over here but we can get everyday cheap bread between 60p and 80p so if I tried again it would be to make special loaves like garlic and herb ...or basil and sundried tomato.

  27. I didn't know you could remove wood blocked stamps and put on acrylic! I live in SC and it's been miserably hot this summer. I'm already dreaming about Fall. Happy WOYWW! :-)

  30. OMG - I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price of bread in the states! Is that just your area, or generally?

Lovely festive canvas, and Tuire's PIF is sweet, if a little odd! But that's what it's all about eh?

    Thanks for stopping by!

  31. Mmmm that bread smells wonderful!! Wipso and I have started making our own again. Its worth the effort and is certainly cheaper and much nicer than bought bread. Your little brooch is lovely.

  32. What a tidy organised crafty space you have, I am jealous! Mind you, you can keep your iced tea!! I dont envy you those temps though even though I would like a bit more sunshine here!

    Beautiful xmas canvas, totally stunning!

ThinkI must get back to WoyWW next week as Ive really missed it!

  33. Great desk. I don't have too many wood mounted stamps anymore as I removed them too! Only kept a couple of ones on the wood. Your bread looks heavenly! Nice PIFs and your canvas is brilliant!
Thanks for visiting my blog and I do hope you'll join in the swap! Any size matchbox, I use small but I know one of the other swappers uses larger so whatever you are comfortable with. Just join in, it'll be fun!

  35. I'm so glad i am in scotland (9 oC today)rather than Turkey (42 oC today). Dont envy you that heat! I do find that things like rub-offs and resin stickers work much better when they dont have to content with furnace temperatures.
    thanks for popping by earlier.
Love the canvas, and agree that i dont think i would willingly part with any of my stamps.

  36. Hi Vickie, that's hot - we are enjoying a bit of sunshine here in Scotland today, but it is nowhere near as hot. Most of us don't have AC in our houses here so we save on fuel during summer while there is no need for heating! Love your Christmas canvas - this is the sort of thing you would be treasured and taken out year after year with the rest of the decorations. Did you paint the canvas first before adhering those gorgeous papers? Your breads look yummy - I can almost smell it :) Elizabeth x #72

  37. Goodness that's a bit warm even for me who loves the heat!! We are having a typical British Summer here, lovely warm sunshine one day, pouring rain the next!!
I can almost smell your bread from here, it looks delicious. The prices have gone up here too but we don't eat so much but you've tempted me to get the bread machine out again!!
It's a great idea to take the stamps off the wood, they take up so much space on those blocks don't they. Your Christmas canvas is absolutely gorgeous.
    Happy WOYWW

  38. You would have to show bread on this post...me and WWatchers are bonding pretty closely these days. I will close my eyes and scroll past that part LOL. I am still working on unmounting...but have found 15 seconds in the microwave and the rubber just pulls off so easily. Now I have piles of stamp boxes on my kitchen counter and do a few here and there LOL! Good luck and thanks for the shout out!
