Heather's Birthday, My Desk, and WOYWW!

WOW!  Last year I never missed a week on WOYWW without feeling like something was wrong and I can't remember Wednesdays at all!  What's up with this?  I think I got out of the habit of blogging last fall when I took all the trips I did and I just haven't gotten back into the blogging regularly habit!  What is WOYWW?  Why am I showing you a (bad) picture of my nasty desk?  Go visit Julia at Stamping Ground and she will fill you in.  Look for the WOYWW link on the upper left!
I have actually outgrown this desk!  I am one of those people that has to have things at my finger tips to use but...Too much stuff and not enough space.  I will be expanding soon!
My daughter's birthday was yesterday!  My baby turned 35...Now if that doesn't scare you nothing will!  I am still thinking I am 35 how can my baby be that old!!!   Anyhow we went out to dinner with Heather and Michael to a new place (for us anyway) called The Melting Pot in Bricktown, OKC, OK.  It is a fondue place and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed to experience because I really wasn't taken with fondue back in the 70's but this put an elegant dining twist to it and it turned out to be a lot of fun.  Didn't take any pictures...unfortunately but I will always have the memory!  Back in my old scrap booking days I would never have missed a Kodak moment but as I have moved on to mixed media...yes I still scrapbook some...photography to scrapbook the moment isn't a priority.  The Melting Pot has a fantastic menu and a gluten free option too.  One of the few places I have gone where they actually know what gluten free is.

I made my daughter a different style of card for her birthday this year.  It is a gift box card that looks like a book.  The drawers are matchbox's cut with a Sizzix match box die that I think has been retired.

Front of the card!
Inside of the card
view of the spine of the card book!
card with drawers open!  I put a necklace in one, earrings in the other, and the third contained a handmade brooch!

A little bit of crafty goodness!

The card is made using Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante designer papers, Stampin Up! colored card stock, Stampin Up! ribbon,  Brads, charms etc. are from various companies.

Well I guess I better post this and link it to WOYWW so you guys can go see some awesome work spaces.  Happy Wednesday!  I will try to remember earlier next week!

  1. Thanks for stopping by, and Welcome back for this week ! I sure can't figure where time goes..My one son turned 35 in Dec. and the other was 36 in July..unreal. Has the gluten free diet helped with FIBMY ? No one can figure out what's with me...mostly hurt..muscles? lots of symtoms of Fibmy, hot water helps a lot, but exercising can take me down.
Glad you had a good night out experience. Always fun to do the unusual Take care, Happy Days ahead. We are coming out of the deep freeze.

  3. Hi there, good to see you again! Happy New Year to you and yours :-)
We have been astonished by the cold temperatures that the US has been experiencing...I can't even begin to imagine what -35 feels like! Just be careful, keep warm and safe....
I love the sentiment on the card you made for your daughter! I'm going to remember that one! My boys are going to be 21 and 18 this April and I'm astonished by that!! They were 4 and 1 when we moved into this house and that much time can't have gone past, surely?
    Sending hugs, LLJ 2 xx

  7. Hi Vickie glad to hear you are well.Time does go by so fast, I agree. In my head , I'm probably about 25, however, having a 39 year old son blows that out of the water a bit, lol.Love your daughters card, and the sentiment. Have a great week, Hugs Shaz #93 xx

  11. Happy Belated WOYWW. My mum was saying the other day how my younger sister being 40 makes her feel old! Definitely looks like you need to add another desk and spread out all of your gorgeous stash. I have been keeping gluten to a minimum wherever possible, but it is difficult when my hubby loves his bread, cakes etc. Ali x. #15

  12. What a fantastic card for your daughter! My mom forbids me to age because that means she's aging. I'm doing my best! (which is poorly but you know...). It's been awhile since we've seen your desk. I think there are more things on it these days like perhaps things multiplied when we weren't looking. Glad to see you coming out to play!

  13. Hi Vickie,

What a great card for your daughter! I'm jealous of your desk - and what hangs above it, and what's beside it, and....... well, you get the idea!

Having some health issues (blaaaah) but am on the mend.

I'm slowly getting around to visiting desks.
    Happy WOYWW

  16. I was on my way to leave you a comment when I saw your comment to me. You are faster than I. I had a look at the fondue place. It reminds me of a place my friend Joseph and I went to in Tampa Bay, FL. back in the 90s. It was the first time I had the entree cooked in broth rather than oil. And the cook top was at the table, too. We had the four course option, too, and we had various goodies similar to the "Classic."

I've always loved fondue and have thrown fondue parties in the past. After I went to the restaurant, I never used oil again to cook my entrees. Fondue is fun for the host, because you prepare all the food a day in advance. The day of the party, all you have to do is bring out the food, plug in each fondue pot (mine are all electric) at the proper time, sit back and enjoy your company.

Your daughter got a beautiful card, and the gifts inside were probably worth their weight in gold (or memories).

Thanks for visiting me a few minutes ago (grin). I'm a bit late, but happy belated WOYWW from #5.

  17. I forgot to add, was the guy saying the birds were heading north because winter was over, or because it was colder where they were at the time?

At least it's supposed to be nicer by the weekend.

  22. That is such a lovely card, and so much work in it too. I have also been missing from the Wednesday gang for a while, but I have resolved to do better in this New year. We shall see how that goes, but I do miss it. It sounds as though you had a good time with the fondue experience. Have a good week. xx Maggie #24

  23. I'm sorry I'm so late visiting, Vickie. I finally have some time today and blogger is deleting my comments when I go to hit publish no matter what operating system I'm using. Acck!!

But I keep trying. First happy belated birthday to your daughter! My son turned 36 in November, so I feel your pain. The math just doesn't add up! I'm glad you had a wonderful time at The Melting Pot! Your matchbook box card for her is like something I would expect to see in a museum. I mean, truly, it is stunning!! What a treasure!!

Happy Belated WOYWW and thank you for coming by to visit me! Enjoy the rest of your week!! Hugs, Darnell #12

  25. Simply stunning. That spine could be framed it's so lovely. Obviously a work of art as well as a labour of love. Sorry to be so late but I was enjoying DS back from Uni - I totally get where you are coming from. Gotta love 'em but they do tend to mess up the order of our universe.

{sigh} now DS-less and catching up
