WOYWW #176

Busy week and not much to show for it except a messy desk and lots of things to clean up!!  Here is a picture of my desk today...

My desk is a mess so I am going to give you the narrow angle rather then the wide angle...oh my my! Lots of fun stuff has been going on here but I haven't been really tidy about cleaning up after myself!  See  my new Tim Holtz wings die that came today!!!  I am excited!
this picture is looking to the left of where I sit.  I can't figure out how to store stencils so I have just been dropping them in a clear plastic bag hanging on a hook with my Cricut mats.  Anyone have any good ideas for storing them?
This past weekend I attended the second class with Frank Beilec down at Happy Trails in Wayne, Oklahoma.  The class started at 0900 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and we stayed late the first two nights just visiting and hooking.  This time we made a couple items for Christmas using the templates he provided.  The snowman and Santa faces were made by Frank and we punched/hooked the hats and bodies for the figures.  The bodies are stuffed like pillows and sit up or can be hung on the wall.  They are suppose to be primitives and they are really cute but I don't know if I like the stick arms and legs.  Some people painted their sticks but I chose to go natural and now I am thinking the snowman has too many 'branches' and they just don't look right to me.  I am going to knit a little gold and green scarf for the snowman and a white fluffy one for the Santa.

Frank used to be the anchor on a do it your self show on television called Trading Spaces that ran for about 8 years on TLC here in the states.  Frank holds several degrees but is an artist at heart!  Franks wife Judy also is an artist and felts awesome little animals and figures that she sells on their web site called Mosey and Me.  Frank brought several items for us to see and I ended up doing more then seeing and purchased the little felt pumpkin and the wizard mouse!  Aren't they darling!

The mouse has a really cute and expressive face but...I couldn't capture the picture with my phone!

Okay I am off to check out the blogs at Ms. Julia's and I suggest you do so also if you like to snoop around the desk all over the world and see what they are doing.  Stamping Ground is the starting point.  Hop on over!

  1. Hi Vickie - what a fab class - I love this primitive look and I have never seen hooking before and I am still not sure what it is but it looks a bit like rug making from what I can see. You did a great job both in the making and the buying departments!!! Have a great week WOYWW Hugs from Helen 77

  2. I think those two cuties are lovely but I think I agree about the sticks, not too sure though. Does that make any sense? It's getting near dinner time so the brain is lacking. ha ha
Thanks for your visit earlier too.

  6. Happy WOYWW. You have certainly been busy this week (have been admiring your tags) - and those workshops sound a lot of fun (I am not sure what hooking is either - will have to investigate). Fab snowman & Father Xmas - and that mouse is adorable. Lovely to see some of your storage (I am addicted to looking at craft storage!). Hope your health isn't suffering too much from all the activity. Ali x #87

  15. I keep my stencils in an 8.5"x11" accordian folder with many pockets. It is clear and I got it for $1 at Target in the "dollar spot" I have also stored them in a binder in clar page protectors...you know I think the binder method is better because you can flip through an dsee them all. Put black cardstock in the sleeves so the whitish stencils will show through. Happy WOYWW Lindsay #7

  21. I absolutely LOVE those primitives and their twiggy arms, leave them be!! Love the felted items you bought too, very cute! The class sounds like fun but hard work, did they crack the whip? I know you can get gluten free flours for baking, there's a lot of info about it on the net if you want to give it a go. No reason to not have a little sweetness in you life!

I think stencils are a nightmare to try and store so dropping them in a bag seems a perfect solution to me.

  23. Hi Vickie! I live in Springfield--so I may be somewhere around 4 to 6 hours from you? I remember Frank from Trading Spaces--he was one of my favorite designers! How cool! I'm going to check out their site. Thanks for sharing that. The Santas are soooo cute!! Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #11

  24. I also remember Frank from Trading Spaces. Didn't you take another class from him? he was always a hoot. I personally LIKE the extra little branches on the arms. They look like fingers to me. Both of these are adorable. Happy WOYWW from # 2, but you know that because you have already been to my place this week (seems like that is usual lately).

    1. Frank was the main guy on the show and had people working with him to change these spaces. I think what is throwing people is that he used to be over 100# heavier and looked like a Santa! Click on the Trading Spaces above and it will take you to his bio.

  41. Hi Vickie,

So, hooking huh? Hmmm, I think I have a book at home on the subject. It isn't like the rug hooking that was popular in the 70s, right?

I used to watch that show (don't have cable any longer) and sometimes I would just say == Boy, glad that isn't MY house! tee hee

The wizard mouse is beyond cute!!!!

    Thanks for visiting me already.

  46. At the moment I only have a handful of stencils, so I've binder-clipped them together and they live in the front of my patterned paper basket. The snowflake one you have in the front of your bag is great -- I don't think I'd seen that one! Your projects from the class are great and your new mouse friend is adorable.

  49. Hi Vickie

your snowman and Santa are great. Santa has a kind face - snowman has a crooked, crafy smile - he's up to something!!!

I don't think the twigs are too much at all - they're very befitting the style you are trying to achieve. They work because like you say, they're natural, so no messing no painting required. Very talended. You must have had fun making them.

The felted mouse wizard and the pumpkin are really special too - she really is talented at doing that!

Hope you are well and going there didn;t tae it out on you too much,

    Big hugs
